Allbirch Oaky Butterfly Meadow Project

The project (why?) is to replace the lawn at 374 Allbirch Road in Constance Bay Village with a Butterfly Meadow under the guidance of the Fletcher Wildlife Garden. Today, the Fletcher Wildlife Garden offered to support our project and contributed butterfly attracting flowers. A big thanks to FWG for its support and helping kickstart our project! We expect it will take us 2009's full growing season to show results. Here is a today's highlight.

Sandra Garland, Chair, FWG Management Committee, presents some of the flowers recommended for our meadow. The plants are all native to this region and suited to the conditions of our meadow site.

Sandra assembles the plants she thinks will be the best ones for attracting the local butterflies to our site. She has in mind some 140 specimens in six different plant familes, and including nine genera.

The transporter (just my old minivan) is up for the task. Sandra begins putting her seleced plants into the van.

Tony pitches in loading flats of precious wild flowers in the van, too. Thanks Sandra, Tony and the Fletcher Wildlife Garden for helping plant up the Allbirch Butterfly Meadow. The loading completed and the plants are on their way to the Allbirch Butterfly Meadow site in Constance Bay Village.
